Reimagining a Print Icon for THE Digital AGE
The challenge was to evolve Oprah Mag into a modern, digitally native brand while preserving the essence of its iconic print editorial. The challenge was in balancing innovation with familiarity, reimagining the experience without losing the trust of the magazine’s incredibly loyal (and vocal) audience.
The creative strategy centered on bringing elements of the print magazine into a digital-first experience. In collaboration with Hearst Magazine’s Editorial Art Director, I incorporated familiar elements like iconography while developing initial color and website design directions. Through iterative reviews with the Product Design team, we created a user-friendly system that felt modern yet deeply connected to the brand’s print roots.
The result of the redesign marked Hearst Magazines’ highest-engaged website debut of 2021. Audience sentiment also shifted significantly, with readers embracing the digital experience after initial hesitation surrounding the end of the print edition.
